The Namibia government folds in to pressure from militant labour groups to expel Zimbabwean engineering expats and replace them with unemployed Namibian Engineers

It is said that it never rains but pours when troubles come to one. The people of Zimbabwe can bear witness to that fact after the embarrassing behaviour by Zimbabwe’s First Lady Grace Mugabe who two weeks ago travelled from Zimbabwe to  assault the South African Model Gabriella Engels (20) in her own motherland.
Having generated global attention, to this murderous behaviour, which showed abuse of Diplomatic immunity, total disregard for the Rule of law in South Africa, and brought calls from the ex wife to Jacob Zuma Dr Nkosazana Zuma the former AU chair for Grace Mugabe to face the full wrath of the law for her criminal behaviour, it is again sad to see another neighbour of Zimbabwe,  Namibia pushing for the removal of Zimbabweans  from their country.
This stems from the fact that in 2012 the Zimbabwean and Namibian governments signed a five-year Memorandum Of Understanding that provided for seconding Zimbabwean engineer expatriates on a government to government agreement.

However as of last week the Namibian government leaned toward giving in to pressure from militant labour groups in the country who rounded up on Namibia government offices calling for the instant removal of Zimbabweans in Namibia.

The Namibia government has called for people to steer clear of xenophobia in the wake of unemployed Namibian nationals coming together  under the umbrella of the Namibian Society of Engineers  and demanding that all posts currently occupied by Zimbabwean engineers must be immediately abolished and re advertised as available posts for unemployed Namibians.
The group went on to delivered a total of three hundred suitably qualified Namibian architects CVs available for immediate employment consideration by the Namibian government.

The call for the government to put the interests of its own people, the Namibians first over those of foreign Zimbabwean  engineers also came from the Namibia Institute of Architects (NIA) which demanded that the Namibian government should break the five year  MOU and not extend it.

While this is clearly targeted at Zimbabwean Engineers, it is feared that different sectors of the economy will likely be affected as there will be more scrutiny of areas of the Namibian economy which are dominated by Zimbabwean nationals. One can just imagine what it would mean for Zimbabwean nationals if the South African people pressured their government over putting the interests of their people first in the wake of Zimbabwe First Lady Grace Mugabe assault of South African Gabriella Engels.
